|Thunder is a very nice little boy estimated to be between 4 and 8 years - we cannot be more precise than this although our vet thinks he is older. He walks well on a leash but appears to be blind, he walks directly into walls and gets stuck behind chairs. For that, he may need one of those collars to help him avoid unnecessary crashes.
He was a bit tense for his exam--calm and quiet, and tolerated looking in his ears and eyes, listening to his heart, palpating his legs and joints - and at other times thrashed around and yelped, but then went back to being calm afterwards. He was fine w/ other little doggies when in the pen and we suspect he'd also be good w/ cats but do not think young children would be an appropriate match. Please apply so Thunder doesn't have to get used to too many places (the shelter, foster, purrmanent home...).
His foster mom writes: Meet Thunder, an older gentlemen who has lost his vision and his mind isn't as sharp as it once was, he doesn’t always respond to your voice.
He LOVES to be outside and trots along willingly on leash but don’t take your eyes off him as he’s quite the explorer! Completely house trained! No accidents at all in the house. Knows to go outside.
As much as he loves to be outside, he also enjoys his daily naps which vary in length.
He is still learning to trust and, with his age and lack of eyesight, he takes a little longer than other pups. We pick him up to go up/down stairs, which he doesn’t like at first, but will calm down as you continue holding him.
He's waiting for his dental for teeth that were not taken care of properly and will eat canned food furever.
If you have another dog, no need to worry. And most likely good w/ cats too.
Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there)
Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!) All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport. Please go to our site zanisfurryfriends.org and fill out an application
Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at email@example.com and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!
