Previous owner describes Mohegan Sun as affectionate, playful, and shy. At home, 5y 48lb Mohegan follows you around. Her favorite activity is chasing after balls but she also enjoys squeaky toys and chew bones. She likes to play fetch and chase. She has only been kept indoors, sleeps on a pillow, house is house trained and never has accidents. When left alone in the home she is well behaved. She knows commands such as sit, stay, shake/give paw, and go. For exercise, she is used to slow walks on a leash and off-leash in the dog park. On the leash she pulls lightly and when off-leash she runs away so must be in enclosed space. Please apply as she is shy which is not a plus in the shelter so she needs out. Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted here) Instagram: zanisfurryfriends Twitter: zanisff Please fill out an application at https://zanisfurryfriends.org All our dogs are in NY/NJ area generally and can be adopted out of state depending on where, we prefer to meet our adopters but occasionally transport can be arranged. Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays and Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too. Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

Peter is adorable at 1y and 33lbs but oh so scared at the shelter. So ZFF to the rescue. He likes other dogs and we get the feeling he'll be good with cats too, but no small children due to their general noisiness. We expect this boy to go from wallflower to a Prince Charming in no time in the right home and garden. his foster says he is VERYYYYYYYYY sweet! Please apply. Bonnie and her best friend Claire were living in the empty lots at my apartment complex because their owner dumped them when he left the country. There are some horrible people in my apartment complex who hate animals and called security/police several times to ask that they get rid of the dogs. Luckily, their requests were ignored but it was just a matter of time before the dogs would have been shot or poisoned either by the authorities or by someone who enjoys hurting defenseless animals for fun. To keep them safe, a few of us chipped in to board them at a kennel because we all work very long hours so couldn't provide them with the attention they need. Bonnie and Claire are very bonded, so ideally they should be adopted together. Bonnie is 1y, Claire is 1.5y. They are amazing with children and other dogs, tested with cats while on a leash and were fine. Arriving Dec 18th--please apply now so they have a home for the holidays! This wonderful little boy, Moni Moni is our first Kosovan rescue and is too cute for words. This little 18lb munchkin is around 2.5y and was hit by a car there. He lost mobility in his back legs and we are working hard on getting a wheeler for him once he arrives. He loves other dogs, he loves to sniff on his outtings so a wheeler is definitely his means of transportation. Backstory: his purrson was imprisoned and he was left chained with very little food which is normal there. Rescued and then he escaped when he was hit by a car leaving him paralyzed in the back legs. And instead of euthanizing him, they found us and asked us to take him here where he will have the proper care and a happy life. Please apply, he is arriving Dec 6 to us at JFK. Great with other dogs, he's under a year and just 29lbs but will fill out a little more. This little girl, Phoebe, is a mini White Russian mix of cuteness and we really have no idea about what breeds are in there but we only care that she is a sweetie. About 6m and a slim 20lbs, she arrived to us week of Indigenous People Day with Rachel according to plan. She is slightly lame on rear leg due to an old injury but she plays right up there w/ the rest of them! Puppy experience preferred and a home with another dog and backyard. Bagira, our furry Saluki mix, is happy to start a new life in the USA. This 1y 40lb baby girl is a typical street dog from Baku but oh so happy and playful, her tail never stops wagging! Lucky for her (and us!) she was rescued because her friends weren't so lucky and were routinely exterminated. She is a high energy kind of girl. 2Y 37lbs Lolita is a Russian Shepherd with a hint of Collie in her breed mix, truly a stunning combo. Rescuer told us:. I found Lolita in August 2018 in the town of Tsarevo, Bulgaria. She lived on the streets. I fed her for several weeks and then I was told that, as soon as the tourist season ends, all the stray animals in the town we're to be exterminated. With that, I decided to save Lolita. I took her to a local animal sanctuary since I couldn't take Lolita right away due to procedures needed to move her out of the country. In the sanctuary Lolita was vaccinated, spayed and prepared for the trip. Then I made a return trip to Bulgaria and brought Lolita to Russia. Currently, Lolita lives in a temporary home and is waiting her permanent one. She's a very positive and reasonable dog. Despite her slim body type, she is a very good eater. Peculiarities, Temper, Behavior. Lolita is an awesome dog! Lively, bright and very friendly. She loves her walks and enjoys the company of people of all ages. She very much enjoys belly rubs while laying on the grass with all four legs up in the air. Lolita is absolutely friendly to other dogs. She's not entirely happy to share her treats and will show her displeasure in a quiet growl that never escalates and it happens infrequently, mostly after a long, tiring walk. Otherwise, she is a super positive and good-natured dog. Lolita can't tolerate confined space. So no crate for her--She'll get scared and attempt to break free. Lolita is a fabulous choice as a family dog. Please apply asap. 2Y 45lbs Agnieszka is a Bulgarian Baladi mix. Her rescue story: July 2018 a Russian woman contacted me about her friends finding a homeless dog while on vacation in Bulgaria and wanted to rescue her. I contacted a sanctuary in the city of Burgas and Agnieszka was granted a temporary stay within the facilities on condition that the tourists take the dog back in a short time. While there, she was vaccinated and spayed. Unfortunately, the tourists refused to take her so I had to retrieve her myself while on a trip to rescue Lolita which is how she ended up in Moscow where the 2 girls live and go for walks together. That's why you see both of them in the video. Peculiarities, Temper, Behavior. Like all Southerners, Agnieszka is a footloose sunny dog. Always in a good mood, she is always ready for a good time. Agnieszka is a very human-oriented pup and makes her human companion her best friend forever. She likes to stand on her hind paws and hug! Friendship is very important to her. She is noted to have a very positive attitude as seen in her constant tail wagging. Perfectly friendly with kids and other dogs, she is very intelligent, and sharp, and housetrained. She is a broad-chested, strong dog, the perfect dog for someone who prefers large dogs to lap pups. Apply before this gem is adopted. Mia Thumbelina, is a Puerto Rican Chihuahua-Dachshund mix, sister to Mimi Tinkerbelle. Mia is a 3y 24lb spayed Chihuahua Dachshund mix who loves everyone--dogs, people, and cats, but it's a little jealous of young children so none on her horizon, please. She is very bonded with her sister, Tinkerbelle (2nd foto)--it's really like having 1 dog because they do everything together including sleep on top of each other! They would benefit greatly with a yard to run around, are pretty good on leash, because of poor treatment by kids in their previous life, we recommend a home with no children. From their foster- Mia&Mimi are two adorable dogs who were rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico. They love taking long walks together and enjoy playtime in the backyard. Their favorite thing is cuddle time at the end of the day. They are up-to-date on all of their vaccinations and preventive care. They are housebroken and generally very pleasant companions. They can be fearful of children. Their ideal home will be a quiet and loving environment with devoted owners. 4y 65lb Bruno Brunelli needs a one-person home. Brunois everything we love about the bully breeds: Very friendly, loose wiggly body and a waggy tail. He allowed the counselor to pet him and rub his belly. He knows his commands of sit and stay. He allows all handling As per the client Bruno is house broken and friendly towards strangers. He has never bitten or scratched anyone to his knowledge. Bruno will chew up shoes if they are left out--so don't leave your shoes out as chew toys! Best in a home w/ no small children due to his energy, and because he is a big boy, w/ experienced bully adopters who know enough to be the alpha in the pack:) He can be a bit territorial about his toys and food w/ other dogs so we think his ideal situation is a home w/ a yard and access to other doggies for playtime. He definitely is not a city critter. He loves puppies so we consider him the perfect puppy nanny! A volunteer writes: Bruno is a wiggly, playful, sweet bundle of joy! He pulls a little on leash, seems housebroken, sits for treats, and manages to immediately initiate a romance with any tennis ball he finds! I’m not sure I’ve ever met a dog who entertains himself as well!. He play bows with the ball, waltzes with it, rolls on his back with it, eventually chews it up, and then starts the whole cycle with the next one. Just watching him is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face, but he also loves interacting with people (and, so far, other dogs too!). He seems to be one of those dogs who sees a friend in every stranger (the kind of friend he can give kisses to and get belly rubs from!), but I can only imagine the extra-special-lovin’ he has reserved for his family. 11/08/2016 BEHAVIOR AVERAGE Client came to drop off a dog that he stated was left in his apartment by his roommate. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Bruno was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Bruno engages in gentle play with male and female dogs. He is sexually motivated but able to continue to play when solicited. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/04/16 During his initial medical examination, Bruno readily allowed all handling without issue. ENERGY LEVEL: Bruno displays a high activity level in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of experience) Note: see potential challenges section below Potential challenges: _X_Destructive behavior: Bruno is a young, active, enthusiastic dog with lots of energy. He will need daily mental and physical exercise and stimulation to channel that energy appropriately. He is also reported to chew up shoes if they are left out, so this will need to be managed in his future home. 11/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Bruno engages in gentle play with male and female dogs. This guy loves to be outside so a person w/ a lot of outdoor time and then snuggly time is his Zazu's ideal home. But he is for EXPERIENCED adopters only, preferably 1 person in the home and no children and not a City environment. 8y 38lb Zazu fka Zebracake is a good looking gent, reasonably well groomed and dressed in a lush dark chocolate and black coat. His amber eyes light up his face. His muzzle is very slightly grey, and his mouth opens often into a lovely smile. Zazu is a little shy in his kennel, but gets leashed fairly rapidly. He is a very good walker, marks a little his territory, and eyes the pigeons as well as the squirrels in the park. Well, he is just doing his job, as he is part of the herding group of dogs. Zazu does not mind being stared at by me and the camera. He will sit on command, and is not at all interested in my treats that I thought were quite tasty. He seems to like my caresses all over his body. He is a really very gentle and well-mannered pooch. As we were early visitors at a nearby park, we did not meet many dogs, and those we encountered did not elicit much attention from Zazu. He is an easy going character, friendly, a little shy–at least inside our walls–and a lovely Collie/Retriever mix who is sure to attract connoisseurs of the breeds.
