Ernie is one of 2 little 3y 8lb boys who were part of a hoarding situation with over 200 dogs:( They are understandably scared of people but are warming up to us slowly. We are looking to place them in a home with another dog, a yard, and patient people--no children due to their being timid. Please apply to foster if you can help one or both, or better still, to adopt. Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted here) Instagram: zanisfurryfriends Twitter: zanisff Please fill out an application at https://zanisfurryfriends.org All our dogs are in NY/NJ area generally and can be adopted out of state depending on where, we prefer to meet our adopters but occasionally transport can be arranged. Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays and Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too. Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

Kahlua is a lively Setter Collie mix and oh so pretty. She is only 8m so has some room to grow, about 30lbs now. Great with people and dogs, she has a typically playful puppy personality. Arriving mid May, taking apps now for this chocolate (and a little white) beauty. 3y 65lb Bruno Brunelli is everything we love about the bully breeds: Very friendly, loose wiggly body and a waggy tail. He allowed counselor to pet him and rub his belly. He knows his commands of sit and stay. He allows all handling As per the client Bruno is house broken and friendly towards strangers. He has never bitten or scratched anyone to his knowledge. Bruno will chew up shoes if they are left out--so don't leave your shoes out as chew toys! Best in a home w/ no small children due to his energy, and because he is a big boy, w/ experienced bully adopters who know enough to be the alpha in the pack:) He can be a bit territorial about his toys and food w/ other dogs so we think his ideal situation is a home w/ a yard and access to other doggies for playtime. He definitely is not a city critter. He loves puppies so we consider him the perfect puppy nanny! A volunteer writes: Bruno is a wiggly, playful, sweet bundle of joy! He pulls a little on leash, seems housebroken, sits for treats, and manages to immediately initiate a romance with any tennis ball he finds! I’m not sure I’ve ever met a dog who entertains himself as well!. He play bows with the ball, waltzes with it, rolls on his back with it, eventually chews it up, and then starts the whole cycle with the next one. Just watching him is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face, but he also loves interacting with people (and, so far, other dogs too!). He seems to be one of those dogs who sees a friend in every stranger (the kind of friend he can give kisses to and get belly rubs from!), but I can only imagine the extra-special-lovin’ he has reserved for his family. 11/08/2016 BEHAVIOR AVERAGE Client came to drop off a dog that he stated was left in his apartment by his roommate. Intact, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/8/16 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: No concerns were seen on this assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Bruno was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Bruno engages in gentle play with male and female dogs. He is sexually motivated but able to continue to play when solicited. The Behavior Department recommends that Bruno be placed in a home with dogs that match his gentle play style and that a dog-dog interaction be conducted to ensure compatibility. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/04/16 During his initial medical examination, Bruno readily allowed all handling without issue. ENERGY LEVEL: Bruno displays a high activity level in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of experience) Note: see potential challenges section below Potential challenges: _X_Destructive behavior: Bruno is a young, active, enthusiastic dog with lots of energy. He will need daily mental and physical exercise and stimulation to channel that energy appropriately. He is also reported to chew up shoes if they are left out, so this will need to be managed in his future home. 11/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Bruno engages in gentle play with male and female dogs. He is sexually motivated but able to continue to play when solicited. The Behavior Department recommends that Bruno be placed in a home with dogs that match his gentle play style and that a dog-dog interaction be conducted to ensure compatibility. 11/5: Bruno displays loose and wiggly body language when greeting a novel female dog. He displays bouncy body language when the female solicits play. He explores the pen for a bit before attempting to mount again. 11/8-11/13: In a group of playful male and female dogs, Bruno displays soft body language when greeting the novel dogs. He is playful, engaging in and soliciting gentle play. He tolerates novice play styles. This guy loves to be outside so a person w/ a lot of outdoor time and then snuggly time is his Zazu's ideal home. But he is for EXPERIENCED adopters only, preferably 1-2 people in the home and no children and not a City environment. 5y 38lb Zazu fka Zebracake is a good looking gent, reasonably well groomed and dressed in a lush dark chocolate and black coat. His amber eyes light up his face. His muzzle is very slightly grey, and his mouth opens often into a lovely smile. Zazu is a little shy in his kennel, but gets leashed fairly rapidly. He is a very good walker, marks a little his territory, and eyes the pigeons as well as the squirrels in the park. Well, he is just doing his job, as he is part of the herding group of dogs. Zazu does not mind being stared at by me and the camera. He will sit on command, and is not at all interested in my treats that I thought were quite tasty. He seems to like my caresses all over his body. He is a really very gentle and well-mannered pooch. As we were early visitors at a nearby park, we did not meet many dogs, and those we encountered did not elicit much attention from Zazu. He is an easy going character, friendly, a little shy–at least inside our walls–and a lovely Collie/Retriever mix who is sure to attract connoisseurs of the breeds. Momo is a Chocolate Chi, is all of 9y and 11lbs We know he is good w/ children and other dogs and would probably be best w/ another doggy friend in his home. (his friend was adopted out) .Momo should not be with young in your face children, but can be around very respectful older children. In meantime, here are his notes: The owner surrendered them because the owner was evicted from his home. Precious and Momo like to be brushed and given bathes but has never had their nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or their home they approach them in a friendly manner. Pinky's family got her from a breeder 6y.ago when she was 1m old. They wanted to purchase her brother and were told that they were bonded and needed to go home together. They are having landlord conflict and were able to find a home for Pinky's brother. Pinky's family describes her as friendly/outgoing w/ strangers. She lived w/ 2 children (2 and 4) for the past 2m. and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant w/ them. She plays exuberantly w/ adults and children. She lived with her brother and was relaxed, affectionate, playful, and tolerant w/ him. They always slept together in one dog bed. Pinky moves towards and barks at new dogs outside. A kitten visited and she was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. She's never bit anyone. Pinky doesn't mind when her owner takes her food bowl; she looks up and waits for him to return it. When the small children approach her while she's eating, she turns her body to block her bowl, keeps her face in her bowl, and continues eating at the same pace. Pinky doesn't mind when her owner takes her rawhide or toy. The children haven't taken these from her. Pinky doesn't mind when someone moves her off furniture, holds/restrains her, wakes her up, or brushes her. She loves baths and is friendly w/ strangers who approach her home/family. Pinky's family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, smart, and medium energy. She follows her family around and sits and sleeps in their laps while they watch TV. She plays fetch and chase and likes balls, chew toys, and rope toys. She lived inside and slept on a dog bed. She ate Beneful wet food. She got rawhides and bacon strips as a treats. She's housetrained, doesn't have accidents, and potties anywhere outside. She pushes over exercise pens and jumps over baby gates but is well-behaved while home alone loose. She went for brisk walks and pulled on her leash. Off leash, she wanders but comes when called. Pinky had a soft, relaxed body during her intake and a loose, wiggly body while we handled her-scanned(+), collared, pet, switched leashes, and positioned for pictures. She approached us and jumped up and put her front legs in my lap while I pet her. She howled after her owner left. When we walked into the dog room, she saw the other dogs and turned around and walked back out of the room. Her body became tense and her eyes wide. She allowed me to pick her up and put her in her kennel. Her body softened while I held her. 10/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - AVERAGE Pinky walks calmly on leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Pinky was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (events posted on FB page) Instagram: zanisfurryfriends Twitter: zanisff Please fill out an application at http://zanisfurryfriends.org and return to dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB.
