Like with many of our “Happy Tails,” stars seemed to align for our Cookie, a rescue from Kuwait. From humble beginnings and a possibility of losing her eyes, Cookie’s family worked hard to bring her home. With their love and an amazing medical team, they were able to save her eyes! Cookie is not so blind and so very much loved! Happy upcoming one year anniversary, Cookie! READ ON for Cookie’s HAPPY TAIL!

My husband and I immediately reached out to Zani’s after we saw the posting for Cookie, a sweet Chow Chow, who was blind and abandoned. We discovered that there was already interest in adopting her from a different applicant – and we asked Zani’s if we could be put on her waitlist, in case her original family fell through. We were sad, but happy she had an adopter lined up already, however after they found out that Cookie may require her eye removed in order for her to live pain free – the original applicant backed out of the adoption.

When we heard this, we felt we were meant to have Cookie with us. As soon as we completed the adoption process and received approval, we made an appointment with the ophthalmologist and our regular vet to have her evaluated, soon after she was scheduled to arrive in the US.

Through the amazing coordination efforts of SO MANY kind people in Zani’s network – all volunteers in Kuwait, DC and NY, donating and dedicating their time and efforts, to help animals find stable forever homes — our family is blessed to have Cookie here in the US safely today. It turned out that our doctor was able to save her eye and help her see again!

We are almost at our one year anniversary of our Gotcha-Day with our baby Cookie. She is has been the happiest, bounciest little girl since from the moment we brought her home. Her sunny disposition had never dimmed, even through trials of neglect she endured with her eye health. She is our most resilient little gal – she is our tough Cookie!
